Five seconds seems like the blink of an eye, but at 55 mph, you could cover 100 yards. Imagine doing that blindfolded – and all the damage you could do. Research has found that those who text while driving are SIX TIMES more likely to crash their cars than drivers who are legally drunk. And for the chronically texting teenagers, well over half of the accidents they’re in involve distracted driving. So, this Distracted Driver Awareness Month, let’s all try to make the roads a safer place. Set your GPS, find a good podcast or a banging playlist, and put your phone somewhere you can’t reach it. (If you have a watch synced to your phone, take it off and stash it too so you aren’t tempted to check your alerts.) Focus on the open road, enjoy the ride, and arrive alive.
