Year after year, as Hardy County prepares to celebrate its annual Heritage Weekend, Hardy Telecommunications has been there to support the event.
“Hardy Telecommunications was one of our earliest supporters and has been one of our most consistent supporters,” said Julie Barb, co-chairperson of the Hardy County Tour & Crafts Association, which organizes Heritage Weekend.
Mrs. Barb graciously accepted a $250 donation on July 14 from Derek Barr, Hardy Telecommunications marketing/human resource director. The donation will be used to fund the production and distribution of several thousand informational booklets promoting Heritage Weekend, held each year during the last weekend of September.
“We certainly thank you for this contribution,” Mrs. Barb said.
Derek said Hardy Telecommunications has given money for the promotional booklets every year since the Tour and Crafts Association began soliciting earmarked donations for the booklets’ production. Those donations allow the booklets to be distributed free of charge throughout the county.
“We’ve always been happy to help promote our county’s history and heritage,” he said. “Our company began in 1953, the same year as Heritage Weekend, so both organizations are proud of how long we’ve been serving and promoting Hardy County.”
Heritage Weekend has grown in recent years to encompass Petersburg in Grant County. The weekend consists of tours, activities, exhibitions and various craft displays, and draws many tourists to the region. The Tour & Crafts Association is heavily dependent on the generosity of sponsors to organize and promote Heritage Weekend.
