Scam HardyNet Email Falsely Claims Email Storage Is Full

A new scam email is circulating that claims to be from HardyNet but is, in fact, almost certainly an attempt to install malware on your device or obtain personal financial information. The email claims that your HardyNet webmail is out of storage, and that you’ll stop receiving emails starting July 22. It then tries to trick you into clicking a link to purchase more storage space.

Several parts of the email show that it is a scam.

First, even though the From title lists hardynet.com as the sender, checking the actual email address shows you that it is from a completely different domain: support@kaigyo.online. It also is set up so that replies (through the “Reply To” segment) go to yet another domain: mmgfn@proton.me.

The email asks you to click a link – you should always be suspicious of emails that urge you to take quick action. If you place your mouse – but DON’T CLICK – over the links (labeled “Get Storage” and “Clean up Space”), you’ll see that they lead to websites that have no connection whatsoever to HardyNet.

Below is a snippet of the fake email with no active links, demonstrating how the scammers try to trick you into acting without thinking first:

“You’ll stop getting emails on Jul 22

You don’t have enough storage. Starting Jul 22, emails sent to you will be bounced back to the sender and can’t be recovered. Get more storage for 1 Month free or as low as $2.99/month or delete items from Photos, Drive, or mail.

Get Storage                     Clean up space”

If you receive such an email, please ignore and delete it. DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS OR REPLY TO THE EMAIL.
