Hardy Telecommunications has been honored with the Active Partners in Educational Excellence (APEX) Award from Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College.
Hardy Marketing and Human Resource Director Derek Barr accepted the award from EWVCTC President Dr. Charles Terrell at the college’s 2013 awards ceremony at South Branch Inn in Moorefield on Friday, March 22.
In announcing the award, Eastern Director of Workforce Education Sherry Watts said working with Hardy Telecommunications resulted in a training partnership between Eastern and Bridgemont Community and Technical College in Montgomery, W.Va.
“Last spring, in partnership with Bridgemont Community and Technical College, we were able to provide a fiber-optics overview training and a fiber-optics technicians training, or a ‘boot camp’ as we called it, to the employees of Hardy Telecommunications. So this was a milestone for us to be able to partner with another community and technical college to offer this type of training to one of the businesses within our district,” she said.
Ms. Watts stressed that the APEX Award is not given just because an organization does business with Eastern.
“The APEX Award was created in 2003 to honor organizations engaged with the College in extraordinary service to the citizens, employers, and communities of the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia,” she said. “The APEX Award is not a purchase of services or a business arrangement; it is a joint venture in service to the people and the businesses in the district.” The award is given in a year in which the goals of the partnership have “resulted in a significant milestone for the district.”
Derek said after the ceremony that Hardy Telecommunications was honored to receive the APEX Award.
“We’ve always been supporters of the college’s mission, and it’s very important to have an institution of higher education in our area preparing citizens for the modern workforce,” he said. “We’re extremely proud to be recognized in helping Eastern achieve an educational milestone for our area.”
